One of the most important genera of indigenous American medicinal plants. For medicinal purposes the aerial parts and roots of the plant are used. Every Echinacea plant is used for the support and stimulation of the immune system. It can also be used as a back-up treatment for the common cold. Normally grown for 3-4 years for harvest of sizable roots.

Hardy Herbaceous Perennial. 24-36 inches high. This plant bears long-lasting, large purple flowers that resemble Black-Eyed Susans. Its long stems make it ideal for cut flower bouquets. It does great in moist or dry soils, and it is somewhat drought resistant once established. Great for mass plantings in larger gardens, it also combines well with other tall perennials such as Daisies. The bloom period for these flowers is Spring and Summer. Can be planted in Spring or Fall.
